Doug Whiteley

Doug Whiteley is the Acting Director for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer.

He brings a wealth of knowledge in engineering and project management to NESDIS, having begun his career at NOAA 25 years ago as a member of the engineering team that led the operational transfer of the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) from the U.S. Air Force to NOAA.

Afterward, Doug led the Command, Control & Communications (C3S) Integrated Product team within the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) program, followed by various roles in the Office of Systems Development and the Office of Projects, Planning, and Analysis (OPPA), now known as Space Weather Observations (SWO). 

Having served as OPPA’s Deputy Director and then the Chief of Technical Integration, Doug has extensive NOAA and NESDIS experience, from working on ground infrastructure to defining initiatives to implement new or unmet Earth observation requirements.    

Doug holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
