Eugene "Gene" Guerrero-Martin is the Deputy Systems Program Director of the Space Weather Observations Programs Division, Code 490, within the Flight Projects Directorate, Code 400, at the Goddard Space Flight Center. In this role, he supports the System Program Director with oversight and implementation of the Space Weather Follow On (SWFO) and Space Weather Next (SWX) Programs which includes development, acquisition, and implementation of all flight and ground systems for the Division.
Before assuming the role of Deputy SPD, Gene was the Deputy Program Manager for the Space Weather Follow-On Program, Code 491, and the initial SWFO-L1 Flight Project Manager, Code 491.1, overseeing mission formulation, planning, and championing the procurements and acquisitions of the SWFO-L1 flight spacecraft and the solar wind instrument suite.
Before joining SWFO, Gene worked within NASA, DoD, and the commercial sector serving in several technical and engineering management and discipline positions including: Project Manager for the POES/MetOp-C Mission, Instrument Systems Manager for the POES NOAA NPrime and MetOp-B Missions; Mission Assurance Manager for the Missile Defense Agency; Instrument Manager for the GOES-R Hyperspectral Environmental Suite (HES); Structural Systems Manager for the NASA Orbital Launch Service Project on more than 20 NASA missions; Structural Engineer and Weld Analyst for the Titan/Centaur and Atlas/Centaur Missile Systems, and the MD-11 fuselage at the Space Systems and Convair Divisions of General Dynamics, respectively; Safety Compliance Engineer at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and Thrust Reverser designer/drafter at Martin Marietta.
Gene holds Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, is a certified Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and holds a current NASA Federal Acquisition Certification for Program and Project Managers (FAC-P/PM) certification.
