Description:
The Department of State working with NC State University invested in a project, “Developing the next generation of female environmentalists,” to promote and help empower Pakistani women scientists in climate change studies. The collaboration between Pakistani women’s universities—Fatima Jinnah Women University, Lahore College for Women University, and Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University—and North Carolina State University was designed to focus on environmental studies/climate change curriculum development, collaborative research, virtual teaching exchanges, professional development for faculty, and to hold workshops in Pakistan and North Carolina. These workshops involved NOAA, climate and weather data, and how it relates. This talk will present key findings from a field visit in the Hunza Valley of Pakistan, what was observed and learned, and perspectives on opportunities for use and value of LEO satellite imagery data in high altitude mountain regions that are prone to landslides and rapid riverine flooding.
